Services

Every piece of Division 5, from one shop.

Detailing, material, fabrication, erection, joists, trusses, deck and miscellaneous steel. Hand us the whole package or just the fabrication.

Single point of responsibility

One company owns the steel.

When we carry the Division 5 scope from drawings to erection to ornamental work, you coordinate with one company. That takes scheduling work off your team, and you always know who answers for the steel.

We also write straight fabrication-only proposals. Other fabricators call on us regularly when they need help making a schedule.

Quality you can check

GIW takes part in an annual American Institute of Steel Construction quality assurance audit performed by Quality Management Company, and we are certified for Steel Building Structures and as a Component Manufacturer – Bridge. All of our welders hold American Welding Society certification, and we run a range of nondestructive tests in the shop as contract specifications require.

Why it matters

What one point of responsibility
does for a GC.

  • 01

    Fewer hand-offs

Detailing, fabrication and erection stay with one company, so drawings, steel and field crews run on one schedule.

  • 02

    One phone number

When a question comes up on site, you call one office instead of sorting it out between a detailer, a shop and an erector.

  • 03

    Your choice of scope

Take the full Division 5 package, or just the fabrication. We quote both.

Questions

Common questions

What GCs, engineers and other fabricators ask us about scope.

What does Division 5 cover?

Division 5 is the metals section of a construction specification. For GIW it means structural steel detailing, material supply with mill test reports, fabrication, erection, steel joists, steel trusses, roof and floor deck, and miscellaneous steel such as stairs, railings, lintels, gates and platforms.

What does single-point responsibility mean?

One company carries the whole Division 5 scope, from drawings to erection to ornamental work. You coordinate with GIW alone, which cuts your scheduling work and leaves no doubt about who is responsible for the steel.

Can GIW fabricate only, without erection?

Yes. We write straight fabrication-only proposals and do that work regularly for other fabricators who need help making a schedule.

Does GIW handle the steel erection?

Yes, as part of the package. We subcontract the on-site work and include the erector on our project team. We work with the major erectors in this market, including several AISC Certified Erectors.

Do you offer design-build?

Yes. Arrangements with several structural engineering firms let us offer design-build as well as design-bid-build. That shortens the design lead time and keeps the steel design economical.
